Music is inseparable from my writing.
Many write in silence or to the radio, but I am a specific playlist kind of girl. Sometimes I even enjoy having a specific song per chapter. Yes, I am one of those crazy people who can listen to the same song on repeat for hours. I have even listened to the same song for a week because a short story I was writing needed to be written to it and I couldn't listen to anything else. It would have killed my writing mojo!
By the way, the song was 'Jar of Hearts' by Christina Perri. Don't judge.
As I'm driving in my car (actually it's a little silver truck with a terrible CD player, but great speakers) I love it when a new song comes on that reminds me of a certain character or scene.
I have heard that some Pantsers let the music inspire them as to what is going to happen next in the story. Writer/Director/Producer Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, and more) is one such writer. Have you ever tried the technique? I think it might be a fun writing exercise, especially for flash fiction or a short story. Pick your musical library on random or put on Pandora and just... Go! See where it takes you.
Maybe I will give it a try and let you know what happens.
