The other morning while listening to NPR, I heard a news
story about bears waking early from hibernation and invading a town in Massachusetts —Bears Stuffing Themselves Near Massachusetts Homes.
Reminded me of the above picture taken in NJ in my nephew's backyard.
Aren’t
they sweet?
They'll grow up to be BIG black bears.
It occurred to me, I've never read a book with a bear-shifter. Have you?
There are wolves and jaguars on my shelf. Maybe a dragon or two. And I can't forget the vampire-shifters who change into birds or mice or, more often, big wild cats depending on their moods.

I remember one book with a bear shifter bad guy (think slobbery and smelly), but I think I've read a bear shifter in a paranormal romance... just can't remember which. The big cats are neat, but I quite like the more unique animals. Foxes, maybe.
ReplyDeleteHi, Jessica! Slobbery and smelly sounds bad. Certainly not romantic. :) Foxes--that might be interesting. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI'm cringing here. I'm trying my hand at writing my first shape shifter romance with...yup...bears. Slaps forehead! Smelly? Oh no, how will I overcome that image. LOL
ReplyDeleteOh, Vonnie, I'm sure you can overcome the smelly thing. Bears look so cuddly and that's romantic. Can't wait for you to finish and sub so I can read your story. Thanks for dropping in.

Shifter bears in Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter Series
Would love to read your bear shifter story when it’s done.
Hi, Janet! I'd forgotten about the bears in the Dark Hunter series. Thanks for visiting and sharing.
DeleteHmmm- I think the most inventive was a swan shape shifter that LKH had years ago. My fav though? Hmmm- I really liked the jaguar shifters in LKH earlier books (haven't read her last 5 or more books though)
ReplyDeleteMarie- at work can't get on blogger- Andreas
Hey, Marie. Thanks for popping in even though you're at work. A swan shape shifter is certainly different. I like jaguar shifters too. There's something really sexy about the way the males move. :)
DeleteHey Dawn!
ReplyDeleteI know Sherrilyn Kenyon has some Bear Shifters. I want to say that Kelley Armstrong had bear shifters briefly in her book Frostbitten and Rachel Vincent in one of her werecat books. Not 100% sure, but I know they're out there somewhere. ;)
Hi, Mary. Thanks for stopping by and bringing these authors to my attention. I'll have to check them out.
DeleteYou have to read The Mane Squeeze by Shelly Laurenston! The hero is a bear shifter and my favorite of all time. Her characterization of shifters is awesome. I recommend the series :-)
ReplyDeleteKinley, I'll definitely put it on my TBR list. Thanks for the recommendation.
