RWA National aka Networking 101

Hi everyone –

Great to be back in the Castle! J

I still feel like I’m recovering from the big RWA National Convention. If you’ve never attended, picture 2,000 romance writers all in one huge Marriott with agents and editors, workshops, publisher spotlights, and pitches galore.

So much craziness!

This was my 3rd National Conference, and while they have amazing workshops and the publisher spotlights and free books are fabulous, it’s the networking that always makes me glad I attended.  The internet has made the world a smaller place. I have writing friends all the way from New Zealand and Australia, to the UK and Canada, and while we can chat and email online, the chance of meeting up is very slim…

Until you attend a huge national conference!!!  I had such a blast meeting other Entangled Authors, as well as writers from the FF&P RWA Chapter, and so many of my twitter and facebook friends. Getting the chance to hang out together and talk books, and the industry is priceless.  Well worth the travel cost.

Me and my Pal Barbara Vey from Publisher's Weekly!

Me and my Roomies Cassi Carver and Melissa Cutler
Me with my publisher, Liz Pelletier from Entangled and Gina a new author for the Brazen line! :)

And I’m happy to report that I came home with a fabulous agent, Laurie McLean from Larsen-Pomada!  YAY!!!

So long story short, I didn’t attend as many workshops as I had planned, but I think I got much more out of the conference by networking.

What about you? Have you been to large writer’s conferences?  Do you attend as many workshops as possible, or do you take time to hang with colleagues in the bar?
Hope to see you at RT in 2013!

  1. It was so wonderful rooming with you, Lisa! I'm finally unpacked, but my head's still swimming. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Great pictures!

And yes I still feel like there's an RWA fog still lingering in my brain! LOL

  2. RWA is the biggest conference I know of and it can be overwhelming, but exciting at the same time. Haven't been for a few years. Sorta Ben enjoying the smaller ones lately. If I learn one thing at a conference, the price is worth it . . . And nothing beats hooking up with friends across the country.

    1. Smaller conferences are great too and a less overwhelming and crazy busy! :)

Which smaller conferences have been your favorite? We're hosting our first SoCal Conference in March 2013... Maybe you can make it? :)
