There
are a lot of shows lately that are tangling with the supernatural, paranormal
and in general, the strange. So many in fact, I’m worried I’m missing out.
These are the shows that are totally my thing, and I need your opinions. Here’s
my breakdown of the shows I can think of, and the ones I watch. Please add to
the list if I’m missing a show, or if I’ve missed the most important part about
a specific show.
Game
of Thrones: This show is awesome. I LOVE high fantasy, and this series is such
a great observation of character. These are some of the best developed
characters I’ve ever seen on television, in my opinion, but that makes sense
since that’s what seems to make the books so popular. I haven’t read the series
yet. My husband won’t let me because he watches the show and thinks I’ll give
things away if I know beforehand (probably true). If you haven’t watched yet,
one word: Dragons!
True
Blood: I’m still trying to pick up my jaw from the season finale of True Blood.
I don’t like spoilers, so I’m not going to give out any here, but I loved the
episode. Obviously, it was very True Blood. Lol. If you watch, you probably
know what that means. I felt like the season was kind of blah, but the finale
definitely made it up to me as a viewer.
Once
Upon a Time: I only watched the first part of the season. I loved where it was
going, but a few of the storylines made me question if the show really settled
on a definitive direction. I probably need to watch the rest of my recorded
episodes. Thoughts? Advice?
Grimm:
I only watched a few episodes of the first season. They were . . . okay. I hear
it gets better. I’m not convinced enough to actually watch more.
Vampire
Diaries: I watched the first episode. Am I missing out?
Terra
Nova: I can’t talk about it. SO disappointed it’s canceled. I love dinosaurs.
But not as much as dragons. Sorry, Terra Nova.
I
want to watch Revolution in the Fall, but those kind of shows are only lasting
a season or two. I hate to become invested again just to have it canceled!
Doctor
Who: LOVE it. My only problem is that I get emotionally invested in The Doctor.
I know it’s the whole point of the show to change actors, and I think it’s
brilliant in theory that they created a television show that has a reason for
changing actors already embedded into the storyline, but I always miss the old
doctors. Then when I finally get onboard again, he changes again. With that
said, go watch Vincent and the Doctor, Season 5, Episode 10. It’s a beautiful
episode about Vincent van Gogh. *wipes tear*
Teen
Wolf: Saw one episode . . . I don’t know how I feel about it.
The
Walking Dead: Zombies . . . *shudders* I confess . . . my least favorite
supernatural concept because this could actually happen to us, people! Zombies
are regular people and something happens to them (depending on the world
building) and then they decay. Gross. I’m sorry. I just . . . can’t.
Torchwood:
I was too late for this bandwagon. I love the show though. I watch the reruns.
Merlin:
I’ve actually seen a few episodes just from channel surfing. I couldn’t seem to
stop watching once I landed there. I like the show, but for some reason I can’t
seem to watch it regularly.
Supernatural:
Never seen it. When it first came on, I couldn’t get over viewing that guy as Dean
from Gilmore Girls. But I feel not watching this is like committing a cardinal
sin against the paranormal institution. Should I start from the first season?
Am I not really a real paranormal writer until I see this?
Okay,
what else am I missing? Which shows should I be watching? Which are your
favorites? If you give me good reasons, I’ll watch your suggestions and report
back. (No zombies. *shudders*)

I Love Castle, The Vampire Diaries & Lie to Me
ReplyDeleteI love the episodes I've seen of Castle. I need to watch them in order. Thanks Debdatta!
DeleteWarehouse 13 & Lost Girl are my favorites right now. Both on the SyFi channel.
ReplyDeleteOh, good call. I've seen both, but not from the beginning. I might get into them more if I had all the backstory. Thanks Roger!
DeleteI swatch True Blood. Love it. Grimm has gotten better, more intense and a better plot line. What about Falling Skies?
ReplyDeleteI might have to give Grimm another try. I watched the first season of Falling Skies. I forgot that one. It made me fear an alien invasion for weeks. Lol. Thanks Darcy!
DeleteI watched the first three seasons of Supernatural and then it lost out to other things. If you watch it, you have to start from the beginning. The first season completely freaked me out the way American Gothic did. :-O
ReplyDeleteOh no. I'm easy to freak out. Lol. Thanks, Diana.
DeleteIf you're going to start Supernatural, definitely do so from the beginning. Personally I feel like that foundation is important for that show. I need to catch up on the last two seasons and it's all on Netflix Instant, so I have zero excuses. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, Darcy! I'll have to add it to my marathon show list.
DeleteYou are not updated with The Vampire Diaries?! Oh my, missing out BIG TIME.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite show right now isn't paranormal. It's White Collar from the USA network. Absolutely in LOVE with Matt Bomer!! They just premiered the funniest episode last night!
I love White Collar! I didn't know there was another season on. Thanks, Arianne! Too many good shows to keep track of.
DeleteLove Supernatural. Great plot line and the boys aren't hard on the eyes, either. Good dialogue, strong, quirky characters, creative comedy and gut-wrenching drama. Highly recommend. Also like Once Upon a Time. I think it's fun to try to guess which fictional character certain people are supposed to represent. Vampire Diaries is also fun. Lots of twists and turns. And I've gotten pulled into Walking Dead, too. But if you have to miss one, not as bad as missing the others above.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting today, M.J.! I do think I might have to give Vampire Diaries another try. Supernatural has totally won me over from today's comments. I'll have to do a marathon. :-) I'm glad to hear Walking Dead is probably the one that's okay to miss. Zombies... *shudders*
