  1. Yikes- am I first??!!

Thirteen-year-old Marnie Mercer is finding life as a teenage heiress one mixed bag of crazy. Ever since inheriting a fortune from her mysterious great-aunt, Marnie’s life has turned upside down: her best friend is convinced money corrupts, her parents need a loan, the mean girls are extending olive branches (with a catch) and the boy she’s crushing hard on might not be so interested if he finds out how many commas now separate their allowances. Marnie needs to find a way to manage her money and her life while staying true to herself or she can say goodbye to her best friend’s respect, her parents’ trust, and any chance of getting her first kiss from a boy who makes her feel priceless.

    Word Count: 55,000 (completed)

    First 100 words:
Is it totally wrong to be jealous of someone else’s coffin? I mean, it’s not like I have a death wish or anything, but my great-aunt’s casket is seriously blinged out. It has actual diamonds in the handles. When my time’s up, I definitely wouldn’t mind flaming out movie-star-style, like Aunt Glinda.
Maybe if I’d ever laid eyes on her (or at least the casket I assume she’s inside) even once in the last thirteen years, I might be a little more into paying my respects instead of calculating carats, but until two days ago, I didn’t even know I had an Aunt Glinda.

  2. Disguising herself as a guy so she can hit the town paparazzi-free with her boyfriend is rough enough, but dating the world’s most eligible teen heartthrob gets more complicated for sixteen-year-old Abigail Draper when tabloids capture a stolen kiss and mistakenly “out” him. Abigail can handle the series of red-carpet photo ops with starlets recruited by Graham’s publicists in response, but when the A-lister gains an unexpected and decidedly male fanbase, his handlers decide he should take his fake orientation for a spin to the box office. It’s hard enough to find love in La La Land, and now Abigail has to decide if she’s willing to play by showbiz rules or if standing by her man is something she’s too much of a girl to bother with.

Progress report: I am still finishing first draft, drawing heavily on my former career as the NE head of publicity and promotions for 20th Century Fox and Miramax Films.

    First 100 words:
I never dreamed my first encounter with an A-list movie star would involve a bowl of Garra Rufa fish and hairy feet. Mom and I stood a safe distance from the chaise lounge of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful Man 2001, on the sprawling grounds of his Beverly Hills estate and watched his in-need-of-some-manscaping feet, stuck in a bowl of swarming fish, jump every time one took a nibble at a callous.
If only I could say that was the worst of it. But nooooo. The worst of it was the swarm of bees fed through a snorkel tube straight onto William “call me Billy, baby” Glick’s puckered lips.

Princess Victoria has spent all her twenty-one years in a secluded palace on Ben Nevis Island under the protection of King Henry, who is one of the three original robots programmed by the ancestors to rule the flooded planet Earth. In a dangerous world where air pirates prowl trade routes, where the Royal Navy is building up to a war footing under its own steam and the king's old friend the Lord of Ireland stands accused of giving safe harbour to pirates, Henry suspects his advisers have deliberately isolated him. Determined to identify the conspirators and uncover their plot, he asks Victoria to board the great iron Royal Airship with him disguised as her robot footman and fly over the sea to meet the Lord of Ireland.

    Title: A Flight of Thieves
    Genre: Post-apocalyptic steampunk adventure

    Targeting: Entangled Books

    First 100 words:

Victoria smiled at the tall robot footman striding towards her along the upper eastern gallery.

"Good morning, Princess." Footman 4 inclined his head as he swept by. "Doctor Q requested anyone who sees you to relay the message that your sled is repaired." He turned into the north wing.

"Thank you," she called after him.

That was quick. She'd hauled her sled to the palace workshop yesterday evening and found the doctor stripping down a steam engine pump. He always made time for her, but twelve hours to replace the fractured runner was better than she'd dared to hope.

Damn. No one caught her off-guard. No one. This male would pay.

“Easy there, female.” His voice was gentle despite the roughness of his touch.

She swallowed her war cry and dug her nails into her palms to keep from fighting back.

    First 100 words:

“Haley, did you hear? Bryce Colton is telling everyone you hooked up after the bonfire Friday night.”

“What?” Okay maybe I said that a little loud since everyone in the Greenbrier High school parking lot turned and stared. I hooked my arm through Jane’s and steered her toward the sidewalk. “I went to the bonfire with you. Do you remember seeing me naked with Bryce Colton?”

“No.” She pouted and kicked a rock off the sidewalk. “I thought maybe you went back after you dropped me off.”

  9. Sixteen-year-old Bryn McKenna knows life isn’t a fairy tale, and she doesn’t expect to be treated like a princess, but discovering she’s a shape shifting dragon is a shock. Breathing flames whenever she’s pissed off is a problem, but that doesn’t mean she’s happy about being shipped off to a school where she’ll either learn to control her new powers or be forced to wear a muzzle. Bryn fights to expose the hypocrisy of the archaic dragon society, because if her life is going down in flames she’s taking everyone with her.

    Pen Name: Chris Cannon

    Title: Going Down in Flames

    First 100 words:

On a good day Bryn hated the walk home from her bus stop. And today was not a good day. She glanced over her shoulder to make sure. Yep. Her creepy stalker friend was back. It’s not like he blended in with the homeless people camped on the sidewalk or the guys hanging out by the pawnshop.

With his pale skin and dark hair fixed in three-inch spikes, he looked like a demented manga character. And now he’d caught her staring. His dark eyes focused on her. One corner of his mouth turned up.

    Pen Name: Chris Cannon

Title: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

    First 100 words:

When the clock struck twelve, I feared my family was dead. Never had my brother or my father stayed out past midnight. The penalty for staying out past curfew was death. Hatred for the Militia who’d taken over our village and declared martial law burned inside of me.

I finished mixing the healing potion even though there might not be anyone to heal. In my head, I could hear my father’s voice screaming, “Run, Celia. Run.”

The house wasn’t as haunted as the local kids claimed, but Scarlet knew something was off the minute she parked her car. One powerless little ghost was not the problem. She and the poltergeist had a deal. As long as it didn’t try to scare anyone into a heart attack, she wouldn’t blast it into oblivion. It sure as heck wasn’t what made her senses tingle with the expectation of a good fight. She swept a cautious gaze around the lawn before stepping out. Nothing looked out of the ordinary. But looks could be deceiving.

As a nerdy high school sophomore, Holly Nelson didn't stand a chance with school star Nick Damone; fifteen years later and the struggling playwright still has no hope of landing the Hollywood bad boy, but her play needs an A-list actor and the producers are set on Nick, the one man capable of healing her heart after her messy divorce from an abusive husband - or of breaking it beyond repair.

Nick’s happy to ditch the liars, backstabbers and suck-ups in Tinseltown, dying to sink his teeth into a serious, dramatic role on the New York stage and eager to prove to the smartest girl in Ashland Falls that he’s more than just a pretty face - if she’d only stop running from him.

    So not her scene.

Which was why she’d wandered outside, down the Pagano’s perfectly manicured lawn to the dock, away from the pounding music, the heavy smoke and sticky-sweet smell of booze. Away from Nick, who didn’t know or care if she was alive, so long as Jessie was crawling all over him.
