Authors often say, "It came to me in a dream,"
when describing their inspiration for a scene or an entire story plot. Hearing
this made my muse jealous. I dream a lot, but have never been stirred to
creativity by the convoluted wanderings of my mind while sleeping.
That held true until the other night. I dreamt in vivid color about butterflies and magic.
Butterflies beckon magic. Magic beckons love.

Butterflies beckon magic. Magic beckons love.
The words played repetitively in my mind. When I woke, very
excited, idea fully formed, I wrote a fun, magical scene full of colorful
butterflies and the promise of a HEA for one of the WIPs in my Highland
Gardens series. Yay!

Most of my dreams are nightmares and I don't write horror. One of my inspirations came in a flash at a workshop--my first dragon story, which I didn't know would turn into a series.
ReplyDeleteHi, Darcy! Mine are usually nightmarish too. I often come up with ideas when I'm walking or riding my bike. I also find workshops motivational and a catalyst for my imagination. :)
